Rent a Dumpster: How It Works

Of course, if you’ve never rented a dumpster before, or if you are new to our company, you may be wondering what’s involved in renting a dumpster from us. Rest assured it’s a fairly easy process. We’ve boiled it down to five basic steps, which are outlined below:

Step 1: Assess What Needs to be Done

Your first step is take an inventory of what you’re going to be discarding and estimate the amount of debris and waste material you are going to have. This will help you figure out what size of dumpster you need. To give you a general idea, the typical kitchen or bathroom remodel needs at least a 10-yard container. Most garage or basement cleanups need a 10- or 20-yard dumpster. If your home is having a roof replacement, that would probably call for a 30- or 40-yard container.

You will also need to decide how long you are going to need the dumpster. Is your project basically a matter of moving the junk out of your house into a dumpster? If so, you may just need a couple days to load up the dumpster. Or, are you going to gradually be filling up the dumpster over a period of a week or more as you work on your project? Keep in mind, the longer the period of time you use the dumpster, the higher the rental fee.

Step 2: Call Us For a Free Price Quote and to Book Your Dumpster

Once you’ve decided what you want, your next step is to call our office to speak with one of our sales representatives to get a price quote. You can give us a call at 407-843-7990.

This step is especially critical if you’re a commercial, construction or industrial client. Obviously your needs may be quite involved. Tell us about your project, what types of materials you will be disposing of, how much, and at what frequency. This will help us determine the best type and size of dumpster for you. We will then send you a contract to fill out, and you will also need to set up a pick-up schedule. With long-term commercial dumpsters that will be filled again and again, these are typically serviced weekly, but the arrangement is flexible based on your needs. If you are an industrial, construction or demolition company, we offer multiple hauls per day or week depending on your project and how much waste you’re generating.

If you’re a homeowner, your needs will probably be much simpler, and for that reason, you can go onto our website and request a price quote that way (but you’re still welcome to call us if you prefer!). You will need to tell us the scope of the job you’re doing. We generally send out detailed price estimates within 24 hours, which will include an overview of all fees. If that quote works for you (and chances are, it will!), give us a call to book your dumpster. We will ask you to schedule a delivery date and a pickup date (if you have one), and provide specific details about where you need the dumpster to be placed on site. Choose a location to place the dumpster where it won’t interfere with traffic, parking, or the job itself. The container will need to sit on hard, level ground.

Whether you are renting a dumpster for a private residence or business, we recommend you schedule it as far in advance as possible. In most cases, we can provide same day service if you call us before 10 a.m. However, availability can become limited during busy times of the year. So if you definitely know you need a dumpster for a particular project one weekend in late spring, reserve that dumpster as soon as you’ve got that project on the calendar—even if it’s several weeks or months down the road.

Step 3: Prepare for the Drop-Off

We will need you to take care of a few details, before we come out to deliver the dumpster. Most importantly, make sure the area is cleared where you are going to position the dumpster; don’t wait until after we arrive to move vehicles, lawn furniture, etc. If you want the dumpster placed on your driveway, set out plywood sheets to position the dumpster on, to protect your driveway from any potential damage.

If you plan to have the container on your street, contact your local municipality (in advance of us arriving at your property!) to see if a permit is required to do so.

If at all possible, be on hand for delivery, so you can guide the dumpster delivery driver in the placement of the container. If that’s not possible, our driver will use his best judgment and place the dumpster in the safest and or most accessible area.

Step 4: Fill ‘Er Up!

Once your dumpster has arrived, now you can load it up. You may have a pile of junk, ready to go, or you may gradually fill up the container over a period of time while you work on your project. Try to load up the dumpster as evenly as possible without overloading it. The contents should not be brimming above the top of the dumpster, and nothing should be hanging over the sides or sticking out of the container.

Step 5: Arrange For Pickup

If you’re rented the dumpster on a short-term, one-time-basis (which is almost always the case with residential dumpster rentals), we’ll come by and pick everything up once it’s filled. If you’ve already arranged a pickup day, you won’t need to do anything; we will automatically come out to haul away the dumpster on the scheduled date. If you haven’t already arranged a pickup day, or if you’re finished loading earlier than you’d expected, call us and we should be able to pick up the dumpster within 24 hours. You don’t necessarily have to be there when we come out; our driver will know exactly what to do.
